What was once considered rugged and functional work wear for those in hard hats with tool belts is now being embraced by high-fashion designers and more established mainstream brands, causing a new appreciation for heritage lines rich in craftsmanship and tradition.

J. Crew, for example, supports the worker chic asethetic with their “In Good Company” curation of legendary brands, which include Barbour and Quoddy, and features sturdy coats and moccasin-like footwear. Levi’s and Pendleton have tag-teamed on outerwear, as have Woolrich and Converse, with their plaid wool high-tops and boots. And in the fall, the 120-year-old premium work-wear company Carhartt will team up with NYC fashion designer Adam Kimmel to produce a 29-piece collection priced from $70 to $600.

Leave your hammers at home, though. You can nail this look with just a smile and a strut.
