When you think of Sonja Morgan, does “fashion designer” come to mind?
It will now — that is, if your definition of the title is loose.
The “Real Housewives of New York City” star has unveiled her long-awaited clothing line, Sonja Morgan New York, which is available for pre-order now. Described as echoing “Sonja’s classic yet sexy style,” the collection offers an array of bland, overpriced products including muted-hue sheaths, gaudy gems and tacky mesh-panel swimsuits — with three-figure price tags to boot.
No thanks.
Perhaps Morgan should have utilized her marketing studies from the Fashion Institute of Technology before conceiving her snooze-worthy collection. In fact, her “Housewives” pals seemed so absorbed in their own drama that they couldn’t be bothered to glance at the runway filled with cap-sleeve gowns and python-print sheaths during her Fashion Week debut in February.

The problem is that, although Morgan’s silhouettes aren’t terrible, they’re the polar opposite of what she stands for. The Bravo-lebrity is the epitome of outrageous — and her collection should reflect that bold personality.
Women aren’t looking for thousand-dollar frocks and over-the-top cocktail bling to rock on the regular — that’s what Ramona Singer’s True Faith jewelry line is for. Morgan’s fans will likely look elsewhere to purchase their leopard jacquard shorts and halter tops, as both cost nearly $200 a pop.
If Morgan is looking to improve her style game for her next collection, she may want to take a cue from co-star LuAnn de Lesseps, who seems to have that look-for-less thing down pat.
