This season, Yigal Azrouel updated old and explored the new.

His signature drapery and muted colors dominated the runway, but the introduction of swimwear (bandeaus paired up with high-waisted bottoms) upped the cool factor in an otherwise typical Yigal show. He also played with embellishment, adding small silk paillettes to jackets and dresses – a pretty, angelic and totally flattering combination. A one-shouldered mini peach number was a knockout, but one look that should’ve been nixed was a white, strapless tiered frock. Though cool in concept, it ended up looking like a pile of Kleenex.

Accessories were sparse, but the decision to collaborate with shoe maven Walter Steiger proved to be successful, as they introduced a refreshing detail to the ankle bootie – no backs!

While the overall presentation was pretty, it lacked in energy and inspiration – both of which are necessities on the opening day of Fashion Week.
