Zero + Maria Cornejo
The downtown designer showed a collection she said evokes the idea of an urban summer. “Fabrics that feel like the beach but toughened up somehow — just a bit edgier,” says Maria Cornejo. That edginess was achieved with her signature draping and cocoon cuts that were done in everything from silk dresses to precisely cut leather kimonos and skirts. The colors evoked the “bold intensity of the summer heat” with exciting cobalt, yellow, scarlet and clementine. A flowing white wrap gown with a front cut out and blue tie was soft and clean, while her frenetic digital prints were influenced by a visit to the Musee du Quai Branly in Paris. Her menswear offerings were all slim cut trousers and a blazers, some so minimal, they were collarless.
