A flawless vivid purple-pink diamond ring is expected to be sold for up to $38 million when it goes under the hammer in Hong Kong, the auction house Christie’s said on Thursday, May 6.

Estimated to sell for between $25-38 million dollars, the diamond is the largest of its kind to be auctioned.
Only four percent of pink diamonds possess a color deep enough to qualify as ‘Fancy Vivid’, according to the Christie’s press release. Reuters‘Sakura’ is the Japanese word for cherry blossoms that bloom for a very short period at the beginning of spring.
