Celebrity chef Geoffrey Zakarian is opening the first outpost of his Midtown eatery, The National, in Greenwich, Conn., his old stomping grounds, Side Dish has learned.
The 85-seat restaurant is slated to open this fall at 376 Greenwich Ave., in a building owned by his partner, Lou Ceruzzi.
“I used to live in Greenwich and have such a fondness for the town,” Zakarian said. “We will be right on Greenwich Ave., close to the train. As a former Greenwich commuter, I always envisioned a type of bustling neighborhood cafe where you could stop in for a proper cocktail and a delicious meal.”
The National will feature local produce, seafood, a wood-burning grill and serious bar space.
The former Food Network star opened The National — billed as a modern American bistro with European touches — in 2010 at 557 Lexington Ave. near 50th Street.
A third outpost is slated for next year in Washington, DC, in the Old Post Office Pavilion, owned by Donald Trump.
