A beloved Orange County bakery that has been serving customers for decades is closing its doors.

French’s Pastry Bakery announced it will permanently close its Orange location on June 28, and devastated customers are already mourning the loss. The bakery broke the news over the weekend.

“Good morning, Orange County,” they said in an emotional Instagram post. “We are sorry to post this … but unfortunately, we have to close the Orange location.”

The closure comes as a shock to loyal patrons, many of whom flooded the comments section with memories of birthday cakes and family traditions.

Others described the bakery as an institution, with customers saying there isn’t “another bakery in Orange that offers what you do.”

The Orange County shop had become a staple for locals seeking custom cakes, cookies, cupcakes, and their famous “Wagon Wheel,” a giant circular pastry that is “loaded with fruit, sweet cream cheese, and baked fresh daily.

French’s did not provide a reason for the closure in its announcement, but assured patrons that its Costa Mesa location would remain open.

French’s has weathered closures before. In 2023, the bakery announced the shutdown of its Mission Viejo location after 27 years in business.
