People are going nuts over a new seasonal beer in Iceland that has been flavored with a special ingredient: smoked whale testicle.

The Stedji brewery’s decision to start pushing a product that contains the cured testicles of the fin whale has sparked outrage among conservationists — who’ve urged tourists to steer clear of the alcoholic beverage, dubbed “Hvalur 2.”

“Right-minded people would no sooner drink beer brewed with whale testicles than they would order similar drinks made with tiger, elephant or rhino testicles,” anti-whaling campaigner Vanessa Williams-Grey told The Times of London. “Our hope is that visitors to Iceland will treat this latest offering with the disdain it deserves.”

The testicles are cured “according to an old, Icelandic tradition” before being salted and smoked. One is used per batch and they can weigh nearly 6 pounds each, according to The Times.

Despite the ongoing criticisms, Stedji brewery co-owner Dagbjartur Ariliusson claims whaling is run like any other professional business — with police even helping keep tabs on production.

“Whaling is very well controlled by the Icelandic authorities,” he told The Times. “Fisheries here are self-sustainable and very responsible.”

Fin whales were unfortunately placed on the Red List of the International Union for Conservation of Nature due to declining numbers, which have dropped by 70 percent in the past 80 years. There only 53,000 estimated to be alive in the North Atlantic Ocean.

The Stedji brewery’s testicle-flavored beer will be available for purchase on Jan. 23.
