More than 30 New York sommeliers will be pairing burgers, sometimes off the menu, with some of Napa Valley’s best wines in the second annual New York Somms & Sliders event, from Oct. 21 to Nov. 4.
Participating restaurants include Untitled at the Whitney, Schiller’s Liquor Bar, The Cecil, Gramercy Tavern and even Shake Shack, and it’s great news for budget conscious oenophiles.
At Untitled, sommelier Eduardo Porto Carreiro — who places top, unexpected wines in his ‘surprise’ (and underpriced) “Untitled” off the menu pours — is pairing executive chef Michael “Gramercy Tavern” Anthony’s burger with a Matthiasson Refosco 2013, an obscure northern Italy grape.
