For her birthday, this grandma wants no more birthdays.
When Pauline Kidder gathered with her family to celebrate her grandmother’s 94th birthday, the nonagenarian blew out the candles with a less than positive wish.
“Happy birthday, dear grandma Kidder,” the family sings in a video Pauline posted to her TikTok, “happy birthday to you.”
Before even attempting to blow out the candles on her pink birthday cake, Grandma Kidder announces, “Well, thank you very much. I hope this is my last,” and goes to take a sip of water.
Standing behind her grandmother, Pauline’s jaw drops.
Since being posted Monday, the Washington, DC, native’s video has gone viral, getting 2.8 million likes and being reposted to other social media networks.
“Granny said she SICK OF IT LMAOOO,” one Twitter user commented, reposting the video to over 305,000 likes.
Others have turned the video into astrological fodder.
“Capricorn, Scorpio and Aquarius when you try to do nice things for them:” reads the caption for another repost of the video.
“If ‘I hate it here’ was a person,’ ” comments another one of grandma’s fans.
Despite grandma’s death wish, “she’s doing just fine,” Pauline captions a follow-up video where she does an “honorary birthday dance” before the camera pans to grandma, who is sitting on the couch, making a pleased face.
The video-sharing platform is a favorite among Gen Z, but boomers and grannies have also proved popular on TikTok. The Post spoke with a number of older users in December.
In addition to wholesome, if nihilist, age-inclusive content, TikTok has also become a breeding ground for some of social media’s most dangerous challenges, from the skull-breaker challenge to the “Cha-Cha Slide” challenge.
