The royal family is staffing up.
Britain’s monarchy is in need of an assistant housekeeper, a housekeeping assistant and a gardener, among other helpers, according to its official website.
The housekeeping-assistant position is defined by “delivering extraordinary service in incredible surroundings,” reads the ad. “This is what makes a career with the Royal Household so different.”
The chosen housekeeper will be based either in London or at Windsor Castle and can expect to travel to other royal residencies. Not to mention there’s the option to live in one, alongside Prince Harry, Meghan Markle and baby Archie. Such a privilege entails a salary adjustment, the description makes clear.
Pay isn’t specified beyond that it’s “competitive” and has benefits — including 33 days off and a retirement fund. Another open listing, for a more senior assistant housekeeper position, does specify salary: roughly $32,400 to $42,700 for 40 hours of work weekly. Assistant-housekeeper applicants must have previous housekeeping experience, but the royals are willing to take a chance on inexperienced newcomers for the housekeeping-assistant job.
A gardening gig is also open — although the full-time position only pays $23,000 annually. It does, however, include meals. Royal gardeners will “maintain the shrub, herbaceous and rose borders whilst monitoring and nurturing the health of plants, and young trees,” among other tasks.
Retail-assistant applicants make $14 an hour and will work a fixed term from April to October.
