Your favorite new ice cream flavor could soon be hot dog.
This weekend, DBGB and Morgenstern’s Finest Ice Cream are collaborating on a new beef-infused frozen treat that looks like grub at a Mets game, but tastes like a decadent dessert.
The DBGB Cool Dog ($7.50) is the brainchild of culinary mad scientists Nick Morgenstern and Daniel Boulud, who, despite his Michelin stars, has a craving for simple smoked sausages.
“I’ve always had a passion for hot dogs,” Boulud tells The Post at DBGB, his Bowery restaurant. “I lived in Denmark, and hot dogs were part of my life almost four times a week.”
Daniel Boulud says he’s always had a “passion” for hot dogs.Brian ZakFor the Fourth of July, the chef saw an opportunity to take his favorite tubular meat to weird new heights.
“I’ve seen bacon ice cream, I’ve seen foie gras ice cream, I’ve seen every ice cream in the world but hot-dog ice cream.” So, the Cool Dog was born.
The sweet, salty, smoky ice cream is infused with the flavor of DBGB’s house-made sausages. The tube sits on a toasted brioche bun and is topped with berry ketchup, spicy honey mustard and candied pickled cabbage.
“You’re nuts,” Boulud’s pastry chef told him. “Are you crazy?” said his close friends. Well, the final result is crazy — crazy good.
“It’s so reminiscent of something that’s so nostalgic,” says Morgenstern. “The first time I took a bite, I thought I was being tricked.”
The DBGB Cool Dog is available at DBGB, 299 Bowery, and Morgenstern’s, 2 Rivington St., through July 4.
