More like Folly G.
A Canadian university employee was left humiliated after showing up to a “serious team meeting” dressed as Ali G, only to discover that no one else had worn a costume. A video depicting her hilarious Halloween folly currently boasts 1.5 million views and untold facepalms on TikTok.
“I’m the only person dressed up,” Meg Baudry laments in a clip detailing her mortifying wardrobe fail. The employee, who’s from the frozen north but lives in Aberdeen, Scotland, had wanted celebrate All Hallows’ Eve by dressing up as Ali G, the boorish reporter alter ego created by UK comedian Sacha Baron Cohen, the Daily Mail reported.
“I work at a university so I was thinking ‘these are kids they’re all going to get involved with Halloween,’ ” she said, describing the inspiration for her getup.
However, her comic cosplay went awry after Baudry realized she was the only one dressed for the occasion.
The accompanying clip, captioned “this is a very serious team meeting,” starts off by panning over a boardroom full of university employees decked out in formal office attire. The camera then jarringly jumps to Baudry looking completely out of place in the character’s signature yellow tracksuit, hat, dark shades and even a pasted-on goatee.
The clip concludes with a visibly embarrassed Baudry turning to the camera as “FML” flashes on the screen. To make matters worse, the mortified gal “didn’t have a change of clothes” and was therefore forced to go through the whole day as Ali G, per the caption.
Meg Baudry had a Halloween wardrobe fail for the ages. @megbeaudry/Tiktok
“I didn’t have a change of clothes so had to just carry on with my day,” lamented Baudry. @megbeaudry/TiktokNeedless to say, the holiday gaffe had social media in hysterics with one amused viewer writing, “I wasn’t expecting Ali G this is hilarious.”
“Ali G In Da Office,” quipped another, while one commenter wrote, “I WAS SO CAUGHT OFF GUARD. I dunno what I was expecting but it wasn’t that.”
Other fans had their own stories of dressing up for Halloween at the office without anyone following suit. “I once did a six hour shift, in a large Sainsbury’s, dressed as Kermit the frog .. no one else dressed up,” rued one commiserator of their wardrobe fail, referencing the UK grocery chain.
The university wasn’t as rife with Halloween spirit as Baudry thought. @megbeaudry/TiktokHowever, perhaps by being the only one dressed up, Baudry paradoxically embodied the spirit of Ali G, whose whole shtick was acting inappropriately in a serious setting.
In a far worse Halloween costume calamity from last week, a UK woman was reportedly dumped by her boyfriend for flaunting her body in an “inappropriate” “dead Playboy bunny” suit.
