This baby definitely falls into the heavyweight class of newborns.
In response to a TikTok user’s request to “see who had the biggest baby,” one mother has shared her experience of giving birth to a 14-pound child.
“We wanna play the biggest baby? I gotchu,” user @shans1588 begins her viral response video, which has racked up over 30 million views on the platform. “At 38 weeks and one day, I had my second son via C-section by two doctors because he came in at a whopping 14 pounds, .6 ounces, 23 and ¾ inches long.”
“Yes, I gave birth to a toddler,” the mom joked, adding that her son had to spend 11 days in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) where he was “the biggest baby in there.”
TikTok user @shans1588 reveals she had a baby boy that weighed in at 14 pounds, 0.6 ounces. @shans1588 via TikTokThis is far above the average 7 ½-pound birth weight for human babies, and significantly beyond even the normal weight zone of between 5 ½ pounds and 10 pounds, according to the University of Michigan. The child was also somewhat longer than most full-term babies, which on average range from 18 inches to 22 inches.
TikTok user @shans1588 revealed her baby greeted the world at a “whopping” weight of 14 pounds. @shans1588 via TikTokHe was so large, the unit didn’t even carry clothing or diapers in his size, according to the mom, and nurses had to retrieve size 3 diapers for him from the pediatrics ward. When he finally came home, he was dressed in clothing intended for a 6- to 9-month-old child.
TikTok user @shans1588 said her newborn had to spend 11 days in the neonatal intensive care unit. @shans1588 via TikTokSince then, the baby boy has grown into a “healthy, stubborn and STRONG” 5-year-old, his proud mom captioned a follow-up video featuring photos of him over the years. The once 14-pound child now loves baseball, football and monster trucks, she noted in the clip, which has been viewed more than 1.7 million times.
The two videos are the user’s only ones posted to the platform currently.
Another popular current TikTok prompt recently led another mother to share her own wild birth story: She found out while in labor that she had not one but two vaginas, cervixes and uteruses.
