An Italian osteria that focuses on the Cardoncello mushroom has opened in NoMad.
Cardoncello DiVino, at 43 West 27th Street., is centered around a mushroom that was once banned by the pope for its aphrodisiac qualities. Latin poet Horace called it ‘“food for the Gods.”
The eatery, which also features a list of 150 wines on offer, places the mushroom in everything from appetizers like roasted cardoncello mushrooms with potato, cacioavallo cheese and truffle tortino to homemade pastas, like turmeric fettuccine, cardoncello mushrooms, coppered tomato filet and cacioricotta cheese.
’Shroom desserts include a trio of Cardoncello mushroom brownie, hazelnut mousse, and raw Domori.
