The steps Joaquin Phoenix menacingly dances down are attracting hordes of fans looking for their own creepy clown moment. There are over 600 posts on Instagram with the #Jokerstairs. The steps, which join Shakespeare and Anderson Avenues and run along West 167 Street, are officially called “Joker Stairs” and listed at 1165 Shakespeare Ave. in the photo sharing app.
In many of the pictures, people are dancing on the steps aping Joker’s deranged jig, while some are in full costume, like the one Instagrammer Erik Summers posted on the photo sharing app. It’s become so popular, you’ll have to wait your turn to get your ‘gram, TimeOut.com reports.
In addition to fueling an inadvertent tourism campaign in The Bronx, the flick is hauling in some serious cash at the box office. Deadline reports that “Joker” is on target to become the highest-grossing R-rated US release of all time, and looking at a potential $900 million in global ticket sales.
All of this despite well-publicized concerns that the movie could inspire mass shootings and other incel violence.
The stairs have gotten so popular this week, Bronx residents are starting to revolt. The stairs are currently clogged with hoards of tourists looking to cash in on a viral moment — which has irked those just trying to get around.
