Kit Keenan may technically be what’s derisively known as a “nepo baby” — the famous, successful child of a famous, successful parent — but she’s determined to carve her own path.

In fact, the 23-year-old’s fashion-designer mom, Cynthia Rowley, has urged her kids to avoid her industry.

“My mom never put any pressure on my sister and I to work in fashion,” Keenan told The Post. “If anything, she always said ‘Run!’

“She has done so well — but she’s not your cliché designer. She’s more of an artist and businesswoman,” she said of Rowley. “My whole life people have been asking me if I want to take a similar career path as my mom. And there have been times in my life where I felt compelled to. I love fashion, studied fashion and business in college.” But, she added, “Recently I’ve pivoted.”

Instead, Keenan is looking toward another cultural icon for career inspiration: Martha Stewart.

With her “What’s Kit Cooking” videos on TikTok (169K followers, 5.2 million likes) and Instagram (378,000-plus followers), Keenan is showing Gen Z how to fit meal prep into their schedules.

“The way I cook is meant to be super approachable for my followers in their early twenties. A lot of them live in cities, they don’t have huge kitchens or a ton of utensils,” she said. “I want them to fall in love with cooking in a very approachable way. Who wants to spend hours cooking on a Sunday, waking up hungover after coming from a club late at night?

“I just want an easy, one-pot recipe I can cook for friends and then watch a movie. That’s why I’ve been able to convert so many of my friends to cooking. I told them, ‘Guys, you can do this in 30 minutes, you’ll feel SO accomplished, ’cause you’re eating at home. Then — you can entertain!'”

Keenan herself also entertained TV audiences, with a short-lived but memorable 2021 turn on Season 25 of “The Bachelor.” At just 21, she was the youngest contestant to ever appear on the show. But she walked away from bachelor Matt James in week 7 on her own accord, having realized she didn’t want to get engaged.

She admits that the show accelerated her fame — “Before I went on ‘The Bachelor,’ I probably had half the followers I have now” — but insists that even for an influencer who seems to have it all, finding love in NYC is a challenge.

“Dating is definitely difficult in New York. I tried dating apps, but now my friends and I just like to meet people out and about or through mutual friends,” she said.

Adding to the pressure: getting her family’s approval.

“It’s interesting when you live at home with your mother and your sister,” said Keenan, who resides with Rowley and 17-year-old sister Gigi. “If a guy comes to pick me up, they get thrown to the lions right away.”

The daughter of Rowley and her second husband, sculptor William Keenan Jr., Keenan grew up in the West Village and attended Grace Church School. Rowley married Half Gallery owner Bill Powers in 2005 when Keenan was six years old, and he’s been a big part of her life.

“My dad’s a third-generation New Yorker, and I grew up eating Brooklyn Italian food. My grandmother on my mother’s side is also Italian. That kind of food feels like home to me,” she said. “I fell in love with cooking when my mom would come home from work. Our bonding time was always in the kitchen. She cooked dinner for my sister and I every night.”

And for a while, Keenan did think she wanted to be involved in the fashion world like her mom. She modeled in one of Rowley’s fashion week shows (“I was so scared on the runway”), studied the business, and had her own line, KIT, for a bit. Former “Bachelor” host Chris Harrison previously told Page Six that Keenan had “boxes and boxes” of clothing sent to the set and was “maybe the best-dressed woman we’ve ever had” on the show.

While studying at NYU, Keenan began “monetizing social channels … I started developing relationships with brands” — including Lancôme, Sunday Riley, Nike, Revolve, American Express, and Kerastase. She also turned back to an old love: cooking.

“I started sharing my own recipes in high school. I take inspiration from other chefs, from my Instagram feed — I look at what’s trending. Just like in fashion, there are trends in cooking,” Keenan said.

“I’ve gone through a lot of phases — healthy recipes, then plant-based recipes. But in the past year, I’ve opened [my mind] about labels, because that’s just not how I eat. I eat everything,” she added. “I didn’t want to limit myself as a ‘healthy chef’ anymore. Plant-based or paleo diets are not always the healthiest thing. Sometimes what feels healthiest for me is going out with my girlfriends to have pizza and martinis.”

But, inevitably, having a high profile on social media means having to deal with public criticism — and Keenan has found her own way to deal with it.

“There’s this huge emphasis on authenticity – monetizing authenticity, which seems contrary. If you’re just being your raw self and get bad feedback, it’s going to hurt. Negative comments aren’t fun,” she said. “I’ve had to create an alternate ego. It’s helpful to
create distance between you and your online persona. I call my alter ego, Instagram Kit. She’s way more talkative, more extroverted. I’m really more of a homebody. I like to be home with my books.”

Keenan says her approachable way of sharing her love for cooking has been an ingredient to her success: “That’s why I’ve been able to convert so many of my friends to cooking.” Kit Keenan/TikTok Keenan says her approachable way of sharing her love for cooking has been an ingredient to her success: “That’s why I’ve been able to convert so many of my friends to cooking.” Kit Keenan/TikTok

She’s also found solace in her close relationship with her mom, which shines on their shared podcast “Ageless.”

“We needed something that was ‘our time’ — to talk about life, what we’re going through. It’s a way for us to bond,” Kennan said of Rowley.

Up next, she hopes, is a cookbook, an idea she’s started to “investigate … It’s definitely a way longer process than I imagined but a long-term goal of mine.”

No matter what, she wants to make something clear: She may have a privileged life, but don’t get it twisted. “While I was on ‘The Bachelor,’ someone described me as a ‘socialite.’ Looking back on it, I think it’s very funny. I don’t even know what a socialite is — but I know I’m definitely not one of them.”
