A Dutch Shepherd named Wiebe has found companionship in an unexpected place: a koi pond.

As a young pup, Wiebe was scared to get near the koi carp fish at a nearby pond, according to owner Dorri Eijsermans, but as he grew older, and got bigger, he cautiously started to dip his toe into the water, or, rather, his snout.

The dog started taking drinks from the pond when Eijsermans would feed the koi, and was eventually forced to overcome his fear when the fish began to associate their canine pal’s drop-ins with meal time, enthusiastically greeting his presence.

So now, Wiebe’s visits mean food for the fish, and kisses for the dog.
