Sometimes the predator becomes the prey!

A young lion found this out the hard way when it was on the receiving end of a sneak attack while stalking a young buffalo bull at Kruger National Park in South Africa recently. And all of it was captured on film by photographers Oliver and Ian Matheson.

After picking out its target with the help of one of its mates, the lion went in for the kill.  But just as it chomped down on its prey, another buffalo bull swooped in for the rescue, striking and flipping the predator over 15 feet in the air.

Amazingly, each animal walked away from the confrontation unscathed. Even so, we’re guessing that lion might think twice before its next meal.
