He’s a fortunate son.
A California baby astounded officers after he miraculously survived getting ejected from a car window during a horrific crash Sunday night — all thanks to a car seat. The harrowing story has since become a cautionary tale about the perils of improperly hooking up a car seat.
The accident occurred in Turlock, California, where 6-week-old Ezra Benitez and his older brother were riding in the back seat of their parents’ Cadillac, reports Fox 40. Their family trip took a terrible turn when the SUV crashed near an exit, causing the vehicle to flip several times before stopping. The force of the crash flung baby Ezra out of a shattered window because his car seat wasn’t properly installed, according to investigators.
Fearing the worst, his frantic father, Ulizes Benitez, crawled out of the wreck to search for his missing child. Firefighters found Ezra upturned in a bush on the road’s shoulder, but still strapped in his car seat. Thankfully, other than a few minor cuts and bruises, the tough tyke was completely unharmed.
It’s a miracle that he survived. California Highway Patrol Officer Thomas Olsen said he’d “never seen anything like this” in his 17 years on the force.

Ezra’s relieved father thanked his lucky stars his family was OK: “I’m so thankful to God and all the first responders that got there to help me and my family. If there is something I have to say about this year is that I am beyond blessed and thankful.”
Despite the incredible outcome, Olsen is urging other motorists to treat Ezra’s near-miss as a cautionary tale.
“This is a good learning moment for all of us who have children that the proper installation of a car seat is so important,” said Olsen. If only he had seen Baby Yoda’s viral car seat PSA.
This isn’t the first time lucky youngsters have cheated death by vehicle. Last week, resourceful 4-year-old twins in Washington state escaped a car wreck and went looking for help in the dark after their father was killed in the crash. In October, a 10-year-old UK cyclist survived being crushed by a 7,700-pound truck because she was wearing a $40 helmet.
Investigators ruled that an improperly installed car seat was to blame for Ezra’s ejection from the vehicle.CBS13
