A grieving mother has published a raw, heartbreaking obituary chronicling the yearslong battle her son Hunter Lee Clemons fought against heroin and other lethal drugs that led to his death last month in Jacksonville, Florida.
“Silence would mean Hunter’s death was in vain, but if one person’s life is saved by his story, we would tell it a million more times. We know the pain of his suffering,” mother Christy Couvillier of Lafayette, Louisiana wrote, detailing the great efforts Clemons made to overcome his addiction during his lowest lows.
“We know the pain of our own suffering as his family, and we know there are hundreds of other people here in our community suffering as addicts or as loved ones to them.”
But Couvillier also shared with the world how Clemons, who was seen in photos to be a smiling New Orleans Saints fan, “had a heart of gold” and was known to be “kind, funny, charismatic, selfless, loyal, and always tried to find the positive in any situation.”

The lamenting mother also detailed a near death experience when Clemons overdosed on heroin laced with fentanyl in 2019, one which left him “on life support for four days before he woke up.”
A grieving family is warning against drug addictions after their 22-year-old son, Hunter Lee Clemons died of an overdose. “Even if you’re just someone who is a social drug user, it just takes one time,” mom Christy Couvillier told the TV station KLFY. “If you’re not gonna stop using, you have got to start testing your drugs and save your life until you are ready to get clean.” Courtesy Christy CouvillierBut that became a turning point for the better in Clemons’ life, according to his mother.
“After being released from the hospital, Hunter went and completed drug rehab and decided to start a new life back in Jacksonville, Florida.”

“He thrived after moving to Florida. He started a job as a valve tech at Flotech, Inc and went fishing every chance he got,” she penned. “He loved spending his days outside on the water or with his roommates.”
Ultimately, he succumbed to addiction on Feb. 10.
Even with the unbearable pain, Clemons’ family has endured for almost a month now, they’ve made it clear why speaking out on their son’s unfortunate circumstances is so critical.
“Speaking the truths (no matter the circumstances) surrounding the epidemic of drug use may be the difference between life and death for someone,” Couvillier wrote.
“In honor of Hunter’s life, we ask that truth be spread in regards to this epidemic and awareness be raised.”
Since the time of Clemons’ death, his mother has become outspoken on warning against the dangers of drugs, even in their most casual uses.
“Even if you’re just someone who is a social drug user, it just takes one time,” Couvillier told the TV news outlet KLFY. “If you’re not gonna stop using, you have got to start testing your drugs and save your life until you are ready to get clean.”
Loved ones of Clemons also started a GoFundMe page in his honor titled “Help Bring Hunter Home To Rest” that’s raised $8,670 on 88 donations for Couvillier as of Tuesday morning.
“If you or someone you know is battling addiction, please contact Hunter’s mom, Christy Couvillier on Facebook and she will see that you receive the help you need,” the page reads.
