This mom’s reputation is at stake!
Beef over baby food is brewing on TikTok after South Carolina woman Katie Harley shared viral video of her 6-month-old daughter, Eliza, chowing down a thick slice of rare steak.
“When I give my baby steak for TikTok,” said Harley, 23, in the closed captions of her meat-centric clip, which has earned a sizzling 145,800 views and over 530 dueling comments.
Mom Katie Harley is going viral after sharing a clip of her 6-month-old baby eating a rare cut of steak. Instagram; TikTok“People [love] giving parenting advice to people who didn’t ask,” she added, noting the frenzied responses her infant’s hearty dinner had received.
In the post, Eliza is seen gnawing away at the hunky chop as little droplets of its pink juices sprinkle on her sweater and high chair straps.
Surprisingly, research conducted in 2020 by the National Cattlemen’s Beef Association found that “beef is an important complementary food for infants and toddlers during the first few years of life when rapid growth and development occur.” The study also noted that “by six months of age, [a baby’s] iron stores are depleted, and breastmilk alone can no longer meet all of the infant’s nutrient requirements,” such as B vitamins, iron and zinc.
However, as innocent as Harley’s feeding time TikTok may have seemed, social media grumblers digitally fried the carnivore for giving her newborn a presumably undercooked cut of cow.
“That’s not even done baby gonna be sick,” penned one outraged audience member. “Omg it’s still bleeding,” wrote another.
But perhaps the most egregious critique came from a commenter who accused the trending mom of mistreating her daughter, saying: “Awww animals abuse AND child abuse in one video. How cute.”
To that, Harley wrote, “As a victim of child abuse, [I’m] astonished that you would say that feeding my child is abuse. I wish my parents would’ve given me steak instead of beating the sh-t out of me. Please be mindful of your words.”

But despite the deluge of disparaging remarks, other online onlookers gave Harley’s baby food choice a resounding moo of applause, highlighting steak’s nutritional and developmental benefits for tots.
“Steak highly recommended by the [American Academy of Pediatrics] because of the high contents of fat,” said one mom. “It’s good for them and encourages jaw development and strength,” chimed another.
And meat lovers in the know assured fellow watchers that Eliza’s steak wasn’t “raw” or “still bleeding,” by leaving beef facts like: “The ‘blood’ in this steak is actually myoglobin. A protein that comes out of the steak when exposed to heat. This steak is not ‘raw’ lol.”
