A lucky monkey is doing great after he was pierced through the head with an arrow that just barely missed his brain and spine.

The long-tailed macaque, who’s since been nicknamed Rocket, was shot with a harpoon gun that lodged a metal arrow under his right eye, through his head and down his back. He was found on the outskirts of Bangkok, Thailand.

Volunteers at the Wildlife Friends Foundation Thailand were tipped off to the injured monkey after people began posting pictures of the distressed animal on Facebook.

“This happens quite often in Bang Khun Thian,” Edwin Wiek, founder of WFFT, told Khaosodenglish.com. “But it’s really rare that animals survive.”

Wiek added that Rocket is alive and well and that “it’s a miracle.”

Rocket will rest at WFFT’s Wildlife Rescue Center until he makes a full recovery and can be released back into the wild.
