CatersThis guy might be looking for love in all the wrong places.
Meet Shaun Dixon, a reptile lover who has kicked girls to the curb in favor of his iguanas and has been single for nearly a decade.
“Occasionally there have been opportunities and nice people who have tried to flirt with me, but I know they’d never understand my reptiles, or put up with sharing the bed with a lizard,” the 24-year-old UK resident told Caters News Agency.
“My reptiles are my children,” he added. “I made the decision a long time ago that it would take a lot to commit to a long-term relationship or have children of my own because my pets mean the world to me.”
The last time Dixon says he had a serious relationship with a human being was in 2006, while he was in college. He was dating his teenage crush at the time, but things apparently when south after she discovered his obsession with his collection of rare iguanas.
“There’s no doubt that the reptiles were a key factor in the reason we split,” he explained to Caters. “She hated them! I’ve been single ever since.”

I love having them in there with me because I can just lie on my bed and enjoy nature’s wonderful creations.
- Reptile enthusiast Shaun DixonDixon lives in the town of Crewe and he has been known to keep dozens of different reptiles in his bedroom at any given time, according to Caters.
“I love having them in there with me because I can just lie on my bed and enjoy nature’s wonderful creations,” he admitted. “In the summer months I take them outside for walks … and I’ll let them climb the trees we have around us.”
Dixon’s current collection consists of four iguanas, a chameleon, a leopard tortoise and six tarantulas, but since he works at various local vets that rescue badly treated reptiles, he chooses to bring the creatures home to live with him as he nurses them back to health.
“Over the years, I’ve lived with a huge number of reptiles, some I bought, some I have re-homed and some I have rescued myself,” he told Caters. “At one time I had 32 lizards including bearded dragons, water dragons, chameleons, leopard geckos, fat-tailed geckos and a golden gecko. I also had around 17 snakes comprising of corn snakes, rat snakes, king snakes, three boa pythons, a rainbow python and a Colombian python.”
Iguanas and other lizards have a reputation for being extremely territorial, but that doesn’t bother Dixon one bit.
“Are they dangerous? Yes,” he said. “Can they bite? Well, anything with a mouth can bite, even people, so it really doesn’t bother me. I am largely attracted to these animals because I grew up around them.”
