These thrill seekers got a much scarier experience than they expected.

Roller coaster passengers spent two hours stuck at the top of the ride Thursday evening at a Six Flags amusement park in Bowie, Md.

The Firebird coaster came to a “controlled stop at the top of the lift hill” at 6:15 p.m., Six Flags officials say.

Passengers stayed there until 8 p.m., when they were escorted off, walking down the ride’s steep incline, WJLA reports. Aerial footage of the evacuation shows riders slowly following individuals in safety vests — and gripping the vertigo-inducing rails with their full bodies.

This is the third time in three years roller coaster riders at this Six Flags have had to be removed from a ride, WJZ writes. Previously, the Superman Ride of Steel stalled last June, and in April 2017 the Jinx Roller Coaster broke, stranding 24 riders.

The Firebird is closed and undergoing inspection.
