Native New Yorker Rosanna Scotto has been a familiar and friendly face on local television for nearly 35 years. The Channel 5 personality — who hosts the top-rated “Good Day New York” with Greg Kelly — tells MICHAEL STARR her ingredients for an ideal New York weekend.
“I’M up at 4:30 a.m. during the week, so on weekends, I like to sleep in until 7 a.m.! After a light breakfast of egg whites with veggies, it’s off to either SoulCycle or Brownings Fitness to release the stress and get me in a good mood.
“I have shopaholic tendencies, so if I can find a place to browse and have lunch with my family, I’m in heaven. Sometimes we go to the Meatpacking District or the Bowery. I remember when the Bowery area was so sketchy. Now it’s nice to see how things have changed. My daughter, Jenna, likes to get us out of our ZIP code. Williamsburg has such a great vibe. There are great restaurants and fun shops and galleries. It reminds me of Greenwich Village years ago.
“My husband, Louis, and I usually go to St. Joseph’s Church in the afternoon. It’s great to have an attitude and spiritual adjustment.
Brian Zak“I like to take a ‘disco nap’ at some point — I frequented [popular ’80s nightclub] Xenon in the day, so I find that napping energizes me for those late nights. And then off to dinner with friends, usually at the family restaurant, Fresco by Scotto. I like to socialize with the other diners before I settle down for some decadent chicken parmigiana! I hide the scale on the weekend. Dieting begins again on Monday.
“Sunday is very traditional — breakfast while reading the morning papers and watching TV news. Then it’s stealth cooking for our Italian lunch. At 2 o’clock the entire family gets together for pasta with Sunday sauce and meatballs.
“At around 6 p.m., it’s time to begin preparing and researching our guests for ‘Good Day New York’ on Monday. In our house, Sunday night is very reminiscent of when I was in school. It’s time to get organized and get in bed early for a big week.”
