A bride who plans to elope is hoping her non-existent guests will go for broke. 

Posting in a Facebook group called That’s it, I’m Wedding Shaming, a woman reportedly asked members of the group for advice about how to announce their private wedding on April 17 while also requesting that their friends and family — who weren’t invited — send money so they could buy a house, The Sun reported. 

A Facebook group that exists with that name is private. However, a screenshot of the couple’s announcement, obtained by The Sun, said, “You were in our hearts on this very special day, and we appreciate your continued love and support.”

“We are very excited to explore this new chapter together as husband + wife. In light of our new chapter, we want to announce our excitement of buying a house!” the card continued. 

The bride then allegedly asked people in the group for advice on how to ask people for a cash gift so she and her husband could purchase a home.

“I wanted to add a QR code that’s linked to a registry or something where they can either buy a gift or give money to go towards the downpayment on our house and add a sentence or two explaining it,” the bride asked. 

“How would you go about adding/asking?” she added.

The others in the Facebook group were not amused by her request and called her out for it. 

“So a bill? You’re basically sending a bill?” one person asked.

“My husband and I eloped (not in secret) and expected absolutely nothing from anyone. I couldn’t imagine asking for gifts when you didn’t even invite anyone to the wedding,” another said.

“If you’re eloping in secret, doesn’t that kinda forfeit the ability to get gifts?” suggested a third. 

This isn’t the first time a bride’s wedding cash grab has been shamed by the Facebook group. 

An anonymous couple recently got chided online for asking their wedding guests to pay them $40 per person for adults and $20 for kids.
