Divorce is down in New York City, with 8 percent fewer breakups last year than in 2015, records show.

Filings in the five boroughs went from 27,756 in 2015 to 25,616 last year, as less financial stress generally kept more couples intact, experts said.

Manhattan led the city with 11,274 divorces, followed by The Bronx (4,667), Queens (4,507), Brooklyn (4,329) and Staten Island (839).

The number of divorce filings rose 7 percent in The Bronx but fell in four boroughs, according state Office of Court Administration data.

“We often follow the economy. When the economy tanks, divorce often goes up,” said Manhattan divorce lawyer Susan Moss.

Divorces are as messy as ever, and more couples are battling over their pets, lawyers said. Moss has had two custody battles involving a ferret and a precious pot- bellied pig, respectively.

Manhattan attorney Ira Treuhaft believes the decline in NYC filings might have to do with couples fleeing upstate for quicker divorces.
