Ah, young love. Well, more like old love for this frustrated fella.
Paul Jones firmly believed he found the perfect new girlfriend on Tinder — but it turns out he was just catfished by a mucholder woman.
The Welshman posted a viral TikTok this week, explaining his love match gone hilariously awry. The clip is now going viral with over 356,000 viewers and more than 25,000 likes.
Jones had driven about 30 minutes to meet his dream girl Sarah — and things went haywire when he got to her house.
“I went up there and knocked on the door,” he recalled in the video. “Her mother answered and I was like, ‘Oh hello, I’m here to see Sarah.’ “
Jones continued: “And she was like, ‘Yeah yeah yeah, come in, come in.’ She was talking to me downstairs for about 10 minutes and I was like, ‘Oh, is Sarah coming down then?’”
To Jones’ surprise, the woman announced she was indeed Sarah.
“What? Say that again? I just got catfished by an old person!” he exclaimed in the TikTok, adding that he didn’t really say that, but desperately wanted to.
He said that he told Sarah that she didn’t look like the picture on her profile. However, Sarah revealed that the photo actually was of herself, only it was taken 25 years ago.
“And then she had the cheek to say, ‘Oh you’re running a bit late aren’t you?'” Jones noted, saying he replied to her: “Yeah, I’m about 30 years late by the looks of it.”
Alas, Jones decided to go on the date like they had planned and Sarah took him to play bingo for some fun.
He believed that if he won some money at the place, then the night wouldn’t have been a total waste.
“So we left, we ended up going to a social club near her house and the maximum win was £20 [$23] for a house,” he said. “I was sat there with her and her friends — all old — and I felt like a child that’s been taken out by their grandmother.”
Jones explained the situation in a three-minute-long viral TikTok. TikTok/pauljones4laughs12Once the date concluded, Jones brought Sarah home and she invited him inside for a nightcap of coffee. He politely declined, as she appeared to be insinuating more than just having a cup of joe.
Sarah then asked Jones if he saw her as more than just a friend. “I see you more like a f–king mother-in-law, love,” he said, rolling his eyes. “That’s what I see you as — not the person I’m dating but the person I’m dating’s mother.”
Of course, Jones didn’t say these exact words to Sarah as much as he wanted to — instead he rambled on haphazardly, saying that the two were “friends.”
“And I wish I’d looked at [her photo] in more detail because she was standing in front of Woolworths, which closed down in like 2009. Why didn’t I pick that up?” Jones said in his TikTok, looking back at the situation.
To close off his rant, Jones had a message for the dating app: “Your new slogan should be, ‘Swipe right and get a fright.’ I GIVE UP!”
