A failed public proposal has left bystanders in Elgin, Scotland, baffled.

According to footage obtained by Jam Press, a smitten Scot hung a white bed sheet to a roundabout’s fence emblazoned with handwritten text that read: “Will you marry me, Rachel?”

But it appears the person was promptly rejected — as a secondary bed sheet subsequently appeared at the same location with a response to the question.

Presumed put up on the fence by the infamous Rachel, the sheet featured an answer that read: “No!!! You slept with my brother.”

Flabbergasted locals online reacted to the unbelievable public display of affection — and rejection.

“Wondering if her brother will give his blessing?” one quipped.

“Who said romance was dead?” a second snarked.

Meanwhile, the fence soon featured a third bedsheet — a seemingly effective placement to catch onlookers’ attention — reading: “Happy 40th Sandi.”

This is the latest botched proposal in a cringe-worthy series of men popping the question in an array of odd ways.

A man dropped to one knee in a McDonald’s — much to the dismay of his partner — and was brutally rejected in front of a gawking crowd.

Another ill-fated ring pop proposal at a sporting event ended in embarrassment after the man was slapped across the face by a woman who appears to be his girlfriend.
