To reach or not to reach?

After a nice dinner at Adalya in the East Village, Dana and Alison had an awkward moment when he reached for his wallet to pay for some drinks and she appeared not to.

He made a rude comment about having to foot the bill, upsetting Alison, who says she’d always intended to chip in.

Did the bar-tab drama ruin the whole date, or will these two have other opportunities to split the check?

She said:

Dana was cute and tall, but when we met, he had a look on his face like a deer caught in headlights. Turns out, I was his first blind date ever.

Adalya was a great choice. We shared the grilled octopus and hanger steak. Both were cooked perfectly.

We didn’t have much in common — he’s from Ohio, and I’m a native New Yorker — but we still got along.

There was one weird moment after dinner. We grabbed a drink at a nearby bar. When the bartender asked if we wanted to settle up or run a tab, I was reaching for my wallet when Dana handed him a card.

But then, Dana made a rude comment about me not reaching for my wallet. I explained I was getting it. He realized he overreacted, but it left a bad taste in my mouth.

Still, I gave Dana my number, and he sent me a selfie we took at the bar, but just the selfie, no words or text. He is a hard man to read, so I am not sure if I would go out with him again.

He said:

I was nervous when I met Alison, but it went away once we met. She was easy to talk to, and I felt a mutual attraction.

We discussed my love of football. She’s not a huge fan but enjoys being around people watching the game, which is really all I can ask for in a woman.

We also have a mutual love/hate relationship with Yelp, though the reviews about Adalya were correct: It was fantastic.

After dinner, we grabbed a drink at a bar across the street. Alison saw a NY1 news anchor and giddily told me a story about something funny he did on the air. It was adorable.

I asked for her number, which she gave to me. I can’t say that there was an intense attraction between us, but I had a great time, so we’ll see where it goes.
