An adorable baby seal was more than a tad sleepy after firefighters rescued him from a California parking garage. Photos of the roly-poly pup nodding off at the fire station have elicited “Awwwws” across social media.

The 5-month-old northern fur seal, dubbed Santos by his rescuers, had inadvertently ambled onto a parking deck Monday in Redwood City, according to an Instagram post from the Redwood City Fire Department.

Firefighters, tipped off to Santos’ whereabouts by a concerned citizen, quickly arrived at the garage and lassoed the stranded pup like a wayward calf — as depicted in the heartwarming social media clip.

They then whisked Santos back to the fire station, where he fell fast asleep — presumably fatigued by the ordeal. However, the heroes couldn’t resist taking a few photos and video of the pooped pinniped for Insta. (Hey, it was arguably the cutest instance of a parking-garage denizen nodding off at the station.)

Needless to say, Santos’ “nap shots” garnered gushing from animal lovers online, who posted replies of “What a cutie” and “He’d be a star at the dog park.”

Santos has since been picked up by experts from the Marine Mammal Center in Sausalito. They were surprised that he had managed to travel so far inland. Despite his sleepy demeanor, Santos seems lively and in good health, Giancarlo Rulli, a spokesman for the center, told CNN.

Unfortunately, seals wandering far from shore has become increasingly common — a phenomenon experts chalk up to overfishing and ocean degradation. This past spring, a baby sea lion made online waves after being rescued from a San Francisco highway.
