A thrilling time at Universal Studios in Orlando, Florida, turned disastrous after a roller coaster malfunction stranded riders on the tracks. News footage showing the passengers evacuating the stalled coaster cars has since gone viral online.

A “technical glitch” caused the Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit incident Wednesday morning, reports local station WESH 2, which left amusement park visitors stuck high and dry.

Fortunately, park officials were able to rescue all 12 unharmed riders from the attraction. The Orlando Fire Department was also standing by for over an hour to lend a helping hand.

The riders were lucky, according to the report, because had the roller coaster cars not halted before the circuit looped, the ride could have gone off the rails. But the coaster “did exactly what it was supposed to and brought the ride to a safe and controlled stop,” according to a statement released by Universal Studios Orlando.

However, even hours after the riders’ exodus, the cars remained stuck on the tracks.

No information has been released about when the Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit will be repaired, but the park’s public relations team assured visitors that they are “working to reopen it as soon as possible.”

It’s been an eventful October for amusement park mishaps. Earlier this month, a Disney Skyliner gondola trapped passengers in the sky for hours, and a 10-year-old girl was fatally ejected from a ride at a New Jersey festival last week.
