An Arizona shelter dog with terminal cancer is being treated to a bucket list of activities for his final days.
The Maricopa County Animal Care and Control is ensuring that longtime resident Rocko — who was surrendered to them twice — as he nears the end of his life.
“We don’t know how much longer he has. So we’re trying to move as quickly as possible,” shelter employee Melissa Gable told WCMH-TV Columbus.
The 8-year-old lab mix’s first activity was riding in a fire truck thanks to the Mesa Fire Station.
A heartwarming video uploaded to the shelter’s Facebook page shows Rocko’s ears perk up and his tail wag when he realizes he gets to go for a ride.
And on Saturday, he’ll head to a local brewery where the shelter has set up a ball pit for Rocko to play in.
“Rocko loves balls,” the shelter wrote on a Facebook event with a photo of the pup playing. “IF you wouldn’t mind, please consider bringing a tennis ball or other type of ball to put in Rocko’s ball pit.”
Gable said she’s not sure why Gable never got adopted, as he’s always been a huge hit at the shelter.
“There is a big group devoted to him. He’s got a big personality,” she said.
Gable said people have a hard time believing he’s battling cancer because he has so much energy still.
“He still acts like a puppy. He doesn’t even know he’s sick. He likes to play fetch,” his foster dad, Michael Mosteller, told the local TV station.
