It’s that time of the year again: the Comedy Wildlife Photography Awards season. And, amid a deadly pandemic and historic job loss, these gut-busting pics couldn’t have arrived at a more vital time.

The founders of the annual contest, now in its third year, said 2020 was “our best one yet, in terms of quality and quantity of entries,” in a newsletter this week.

The 44 images chosen as finalists this year “are without doubt the crème de la crème, the bee’s knees and the cherry on top of the 2020 competition!”

Winners of the photography and video categories, announced on Oct. 22, will receive a one-week safari stay at Alex Walker’s Serian in the Masai Mara nature reserve in Kenya, as well as a “unique handmade trophy” by artists in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. The contest is made possible in part by the Born Free Foundation, which advocates for wildlife conservation.

Ahead of the official award, fans of the collection also have the chance to choose their own top fotog for the people’s choice award, now open for voting.
