It’s a good day for Twitter user Carter Wilkerson. He just broke a record for the most retweeted post ever — beating out previous retweet champ Ellen DeGeneres — and scored himself a year of free Wendy’s chicken nuggets in the process.

In April, Wilkerson tweeted at Wendy’s account to ask how many retweets it would take to receive a year’s worth of free nuggets. The fast-food brand replied with the magic number: 18 million.

Wilkerson called for the internet’s help, and as of Tuesday, he has more than 3,433,216 retweets — meaning that he’s officially surpassed DeGeneres’ famously star-studded Oscar selfie.

Though Wilkerson is still well short of the Wendy’s 18 million mark, the chain decided that a record-breaking retweet was good enough: They’ve awarded Carter a year of free nuggets, and donated $100,000 to the Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption, according to a tweet from the brand.

As reported by Mediaite, when DeGeneres had Wilkerson on her show in April, they discussed a deal: She would support Wilkerson’s fast-food endeavor by retweeting his post, as long as he promised to retweet DeGeneres’ selfie so she could hold on to her record.

In exchange, DeGeneres offered Wilkerson a year’s supply of Ellen underwear and a big-screen TV, warning that if his tweet surpassed hers as it has now, she’d take back the gifts.

At least he can eat his way through the loss.
