Here’s a fast track to getting on Santa’s naughty list.
Mischievous TikTokers are sending their parents phony Christmas cards addressed from couples and families that don’t actually exist, all to get a rise and confuse the holly jolly heck out of their parents.
It doesn’t end there, though. Some have gone to the extent of putting money in the cards and left messages from the phantom senders like “we must all catch up” or “we look forward to seeing you in the new year when we come by for a visit!”
The hilarious and harmless holiday prank originated in the United Kingdom, where TikToker Lauren Christina Wilkes (@laurenchristinawilkes) told the world of her annual family gag and inspired many others to do the same.
“I want to go into a bit more depth and put a little story in there or something,” Wilkes said in her video encouraging others to pull the stunt for the 2021 holidays.
In the spirit of being merry and bright, the internet listened to Wilkes as many TikTokers also passed along the gift that keeps on giving.
User @islaygrant went incognito as “John and Wendy” to prank her parents, putting money in the mysterious card.
“Have a bottle of Cava on us. Looking forward to seeing you all when the COVID nonsense is over,” the TikTokers mother bewilderingly reads.
“John and Wendy?” Her father questions as the couple struggles to recall knowing the nonexistent man and woman.
Another user, @somearcadeguy managed to keep the gag going for days at a time with his fraudulent holiday greeting from “special friends” Philip and Elizabeth.
“Well, we know them, they got our names right,” his mother said.
Sadly not sent from English royalty, the card perplexed the TikToker’s parents to the extent that more family was recruited to solve the mystery.
The prank card from “Philip and Elizabeth” caused quite a stir in one family’s home. TikTokThe mom called the family’s grandmother, who advised the possibility that a woman they know named Helen meant to address said card to a couple named Philip and Elizabeth.
In a follow-up video, the prankster’s father reached out to this Helen to clear up the holiday hijinks.
“It was a very friendly card…but we don’t even know Philip and Elizabeth, so who the hell sent us this card?” He desperately inquires to Helen after she was ruled out as a suspect.
Some TikTokers were more merciful and let their family in on the prank after a good laugh — like India Wood (@indiawood3) — who left an elaborate tall tale for her stepfather from his dear old fake friend, Si.
“God that holiday to Thailand seems like a lifetime ago…Jenny says hi and just the other day actually said how we should meet up for a drink,” the long winded tale that Wilkes inspired reads.
“I’ve never been on holiday to Thailand…I don’t know who Jenny is and I don’t know anyone called Si,” the stepdad anxiously says in front of his wife.
A card from “Si” recalling a vacation to Thailand made one stepfather scratch his head around family.
The stepdad came to his senses after both the mother and daughter couldn’t control their laughter after minutes of hilarious confusion.
“Oh it’s you guys,” he dismissively says.
Meanwhile, Hannah Rosenberg (@hanrosenberg) terrified her family into thinking they were having unexpected company from Thomas, Susan and their children.
“We look forward to seeing you in the new year when we come by for a visit!” her card reads, assuring that good old Thomas and Susan will call before stopping by.
Though, Rosenberg was quick to reveal her nom de plume, bringing a belly laugh from her mother and a gaze of puzzlement from her father.
TikToker Alyssa Cronin (@acronin13) went above and beyond in her vexatious actions by shopping an unknown family into a photo card sent to her father.
Those cheery portrait shots of the D’amelio family perplexed the dad, prompting him to call his daughter out of confusion.
“We have no idea who they are. A husband and wife and two college aged daughters, John, Denise, Alyssa, and Samantha…our names, our addresses, everything’s right except we don’t know who these people are,” the dad says, going on to mention that the family has a lovely suburban home with “a nice yard and a pool.”
Talk about the spirit of Christmas. A family displayed a phoney Christmas card, admittingly not knowing the sender. TikTokDespite the confusion, the D’amelio family Christmas card was still put on display by Cronin’s family.
