It’s good DC ya! Seriously, though: Our nation’s capital constantly makes headlines, especially in an election year, but not always as a place to go for fun.

But consider that good hotels, restaurants and bars in DC are generally more affordable than their New York City counterparts.

It’s also easy to get to: In September, Amtrak launched nonstop service from New York to Washington, which cuts the travel time down to just 2½ hours (from $130 each way).

Museums are free, so you can pop in to the National Portrait Gallery to see the Obama portraits without coughing up hefty admission fees.

And because the city is blanketed in electric scooters rented via a (suspiciously easy) app download, hop on to ogle the sights along the city’s boulevards.

New hotels also offer a cushy home base for visitors.

Don’t miss the Navy Yard, with industrial-looking shops, restaurants and bars, along the Anacostia River south of Capitol Hill, hugging the Nationals’ stadium. (The current World Series champs, if you recall.)

Last month, it welcomed a new Thompson property, a hip Hyatt sub-brand whose 225 rooms and suites are decorated in a sleek, subtly nautical style (from $359/night).

Highlights include rooftop bar Anchovy Social and in-hotel Danny Meyer restaurant Maialino Mare.

And a bank building that dates back to 1891 — with original columns and coffered ceilings intact — has re-opened as the Riggs Washington DC, with 181 rooms and suites catty-corner from the aforementioned portrait gallery (from $329/night).

It must be nice, as the “Hamilton” song goes, to have Washington on your side.
