Baja California’s Los Cabos region has always been a bit too remote to take off in a big way with New Yorkers. A bit Miami, a bit Bahamas, a bit Hamptons, and far more difficult to get to than any of the above, even on a good day….Cabo was always more for California than for us.

That’s changing – American Airlines joins the elite group of two offering non-stop flights to San Jose del Cabo, starting Dec. 16. It’s weekly though, departing and returning on Saturdays. However, frequency could increase, according to the airline.

Continental went into the region in a similarly tentative manner, offering a weekly seasonal flight — it’s now gone year-round and thrice-weekly from Newark.

Either way, a non-stop still takes over 6 hours. But, then again, if you ever wanted to sleep near (not with) the likes of Jennifer Aniston and Barbra Streisand, then who are we to stop you.
