A flight delay can be an enjoyable experience if there’s a good bar near your gate.

And thanks to hospitality giants like OTG and Westfield, dreary terminals at JFK, LaGuardia and Newark airports now feature bars and restaurants with great drink menus.

Indeed, not only are there a quality selection of watering holes in each of the city’s main airports, they span a wide range of tastes that cater to wine fans, whiskey buffs and everyone in between.

Read on for a look at our favorite places.

NEWARK

City Point Bar (Terminal B): Newark’s main hub (Air China, Air India and Israel’s El Al all depart from here) also houses City Point Bar.

Drinking wine in the air can be a toss-up cabin pressure can alter flavors so grab a glass here before takeoff. There’s a pour of Seaglass pinot noir for $13 and a glass of Trinity Oaks merlot for that same price.

Proof Whiskey Bar (Terminal C): If whiskey drinks strike your fancy, this United terminal has an oasis for you.

Proof Whiskey Bar has a nice list of cocktails; we’d opt for the $14 Tableside Truffle Shuffle a drink mixed with Woodford Reserve bourbon, sugar, bitters and truffle oil.

JFK

BRKLYN Beer Garden (Terminal 2): If you’re flying Delta and have time to kill check out this post-security spot, where BLT chef Laurent Tourondel serves as restaurant consultant. Its $13 “Beergarita” stands out, with Bronx Pale Ale, tequila, triple sec and lime juice.

Vino Volo Wine Room (Terminal 8): Those traveling with Qatar Airways, Brazil’s TAM or Finnair can also drink their way around the world at Vino Volo. Options include a $14 pour of Spanish tempranillo and a $10 glass of prosecco from Italy. Hungry, too? A $15 dish of Merguez sausage comes with beans, roasted tomatoes and olives.

LaGUARDIA

Empire Tavern (Terminal C): This full-service eatery from ex-Balthazar chefs Riad Nasr and Lee Hanson isn’t all about the food; there are some nifty cocktails to boot. Before your Delta or American Airlines flight, grab a Solerno Spritz with blood orange liqueur and Aperol — for $14.50.

Wibar (Terminal D): You’ve saved money on a low-cost Westjet trip to Canada departing from this terminal, which means you have more cash for drinking. Try Wibar’s mint julep ($15.50), or its Gimlet with gin or vodka ($11.75) while you nibble on a Murray’s cheese plate ($22).
