We hear that Beatrice Whitney Straight, the late Oscar- and Tony Award-winning actress, once owned a townhouse at 156 E. 62nd St.

That home was torn down, and a new 20-foot-wide, six-story townhouse has risen in its place between Lexington and Third avenues.

The asking price is a cool $18.5 million. Straight — the daughter of an investment banker and a Whitney heir — had quite the life story herself.

Her first husband was Louis Dolivet, the Free French leader who was in the French Air Force until 1940 and co-editor of Free World, published by the International Free World Association.

In 1948, while Straight was performing on Broadway in “The Heiress,” she met and married her co-star, Peter Cookson.

They had two children together. Her son from her first marriage, Willard, died of an accidental drowning in a pond on their farm upstate in Armonk. Dolivet, back in Paris, was not granted a visa to attend the funeral because of alleged pro-communist activities, which he denied.

Fast forward to today: The newly built limestone townhouse is smart-wired. It has six bedrooms, formal and informal entertaining areas, a garden, custom millwork, high ceilings, floor-to-ceiling widows, radiant-heat flooring and a roof deck.

The home opens to a foyer and a circular main staircase, which was preserved from the former residence.

There’s also a four-passenger elevator, a walk-in, glass-encased wine cellar, a gym, and a steam and sauna room. The listing broker is Francis O’Shea of Leslie J. Garfield.
