Staying in town for the holidays? Opt for a New York City staycation that comes with the added gift of not being holed up in your apartment.
Hotels around the city are offering festive experiences that combine the comforts of home with the unparalleled delight of never stepping onto an airplane or dealing with holiday traffic.
Between bright decor and family-friendly programming, these hotels have the jolliest season covered. (And they can delight guests from out of town, too, during these celebratory times.)

For an extra $100, your room comes with a pre-lit mini Christmas tree, hot chocolate and tinsel-y decor. The $150 option scores a larger tree with custom ornaments. Santa may even make an appearance.

Make it sparkle
Mr. PurpleThe Veuve Clicquot pop-up at Mr. Purple takes the après-ski theme to new heights. The igloo-shaped lounge atop the Hotel Indigo Lower East Side is filled with plush, blanket-lined couches, a digital fireplace and a custom Champagne bar. The exclusive Clicquot Chalet holds only 25 to 50 people — so reservations are encouraged.

Ice is nice
Michael SofronskiInstead of boarding a plane, lace up some skates at the TWA Hotel’s skating rink (shown above). Opened this year, JFK Airport’s throwback hotel has debuted an ice-skating rink on tarmac near the hotel’s cocktail lounge inside a vintage “Connie” plane. Snacks and beverages are served alongside a Christmas tree and dazzling light display through the end of February. Admission is $15, or $10 for kids under 12. Ice skates can be rented for $10, or $8 for kids under 12.

Fun and games
Mark WeinbergCurated with $6,000 worth of toys, from a giant stuffed giraffe to that floor piano from “Big,” the whimsical FAO Schwarz suite at Midtown’s Conrad Hotel is perfect for kids — and adults who could use a child-like state of mind this holiday season. Toys line every corner of the luxury suite, and can be purchased during guests’ stay. It looks straight out of “Home Alone 2,” as if Santa Claus himself set up shop. Even the bathtub overlooking the Hudson River comes with a toy soldier-outfitted rubber ducky. Each room in the rest of the hotel comes with a “toy menu” so guests can shop during their stay.
