The Taj Mahal is getting so overrun by tourists — attracting at least 50,000 people a day on weekends — that there’s now going to be a cap on how long visitors can stay at the Indian landmark.
Starting Sunday, the UNESCO World Heritage Site will limit visits to three hours per person.
“Day by day, the number of visitors [is] increasing,” a spokesman for the Archaeological Survey of India, which oversees the Taj Mahal, tells CNN. “Sometimes people end up spending a whole day at the Taj. This creates a situation where there are too many people.”
Thankfully, there haven’t been any injuries or incidents because of overcrowding at the famed attraction.
“This is to ensure no untoward incidents or accidents occur,” the spokesperson says.
