Crowning Mykonos’ most luxurious hotel is no easy feat — but here are the two favored heavyweights squaring off.

The layout
Idyllically set on a hill that is just a five-minute walk from buzzy Ornos beach, Kensho features 35 rooms decked out with either a Jacuzzi or a small pool. Designed with a contemporary aesthetic, rooms feature blond wood accents, white walls and custom Italian furniture. Rain showers are kitted out with Hermès soaps and shampoos.
Breakfast, lunch, dinner?
For breakfast, skip the buffet and order à la carte. The eggs Benedict — along with a glass of Champagne — is the perfect vacation pick-me-up. At night, make sure to try chef George Stylianoudakis’ 10-course Mediterranean dinner, with dishes like crispy octopus skin with fish roe and pork belly slow-cooked in fresh herbs.

The letdown
Though the staff is warm and friendly, the hotel is still ironing out some kinks. Ordering a taxi through the front desk was a hassle. Sadly, we ended up missing our ship to Santorini because the hotel shuttle took us to the wrong port, even though the driver had our ticket information.
The lowdown
Kensho’s laid-back charm makes it an ideal stay for couples. Its beautiful interiors and picturesque location make Kensho a welcome addition to the island’s roster of luxe hotels.

Built in 1985 on top of a dilapidated quarry and extensively renovated in 2007, Cavo Tagoo set the standard for the Mykonos’ luxe hotels, and is a favorite among European soccer stars, Middle Eastern jet-setters, and celebs like Lindsay Lohan and Victoria’s Secret model Izabel Goulart.
The layout
Most of its 80 rooms and suites come with private terraces overlooking the Aegean Sea and the property is also near a port and pristine beaches. Splurge on a villa, which includes a seaside bathtub, mod furnishings and an infinity pool that’s perfect for ogling Greece’s famous sunsets.

Breathe in that fresh Cycladic air.Nicholas MastorasDuring the day, hotel restaurant Kiku offers traditional Mediterranean cuisine, including perfectly fried calamari. Definitely don’t miss dinner, which centers on Japanese fare. The spicy sushi rolls were especially tasty. Guests can also inhale, exhale and unwind with fruit-flavored hookah.

Sip some Greek rosé at the hotel’s trendy pool bar, where hard-bodied beauties recline on floating pads to sunbathe and be seen.
The letdown
Though a complimentary shuttle takes guests to and from Mykonos’ main town every 30 minutes, it can be difficult trying to get a ride back after 10 p.m. Make sure to call the front desk an hour before you want to be picked up.
The lowdown
The service is world-class. The concierge suggests trendy, quality restaurants, and no request gets turned down. Even during the island’s peak season, the staff never seemed overwhelmed. Even given the island’s recent surge in other lodging options, Cavo Tagoo maintains its rightful place atop the lists of Mykonos’ best stays.
