UPDATE: Space hotel
On the off chance the universe doesn’t get flushed down the apocalyptic crapper come 2012, the world will see its first space hotel … or, more literally, guests of the The Galactic Suite Space Resort will be able to look down on the world from about 280 miles up.
That’s what Galactic Suite Ltd — aliencation rival of Branson’s Virgin Galactic — told Reuters, anyway. In just a few short years, they hope to send a small 4-person capsule piloted by 2 astronauts into orbit, traveling at over 18,000 mph.
If you’re not a morning person, abort mission: while circling the earth every 80 minutes, you’ll experience the sunrise 15 times a day!
Three nights in space plus the mandatory 8-week training course in the tropics will run about $4.4 million per person. Actually, that almost seems a little low — but god only knows what the Tang in the mini fridge will clock in at. In space, no concierge can hear you bitch.
