Snitches get riches.
Tired of having your savings sapped by NYC’s exorbitant cost of living? Not to fear, an enterprising TikToker has revealed a surefire way New Yorkers can earn extra dough in just minutes — by tattling on idling trucks. A clip of this traffic-based side hustle currently boasts 1.3 million views as cash-strapped Gothamites scramble to find ways to earn extra cash amid inflation woes.
“People in New York are earning tens of thousands of dollars from their smartphones by reporting idling trucks,” teases Will in the clip. He runs the TikTok account doobzee.eth, which details various alleged cash hacks from crypto speculation to flipping NFTs.
This latest get-rich-quick-scheme takes advantage of New York’s Citizens Air Complaint Program launched in 2019 by the NYC Department of Environmental Protection which offers ordinary citizens financial incentives for helping report emissions violations across the city, CNBC reported.
To do their part in scaling back smog, citizens simply take a video of a truck that’s been idling for more than three minutes — an offense in New York City.
They then upload the incriminating clip to the Idling Complaint System website, whereupon they’ll be able to reap “25% of the ticket when it’s paid,” Will explains in the video.
Fines for first-time offenders clock in at $350, which means emission vigilantes can earn $87.50 in “just 3 minutes,” per the clip. In fact, Will describes the case of one 81-year-old New York tipster named Paul Slapikas who claims he has earned a whopping $64,000 this way.

The app, launched in 2019 by the NYC Department of Environmental Protection, offers ordinary citizens financial incentives for helping report emissions violations. doobzee.eth/TiktokEnvironmental agencies deem the initiative important given that emissions from idling gasoline and diesel-powered vehicles can cause a variety of health problems for citizens of New York, including asthma, respiratory issues and cardiovascular problems, CNBC reported.
Despite seeming like a free lunch, this side hustle can conversely prove hazardous to the truck tattler’s health. “Be careful, ’cause a lot of people have been punched or even stabbed by truck drivers,” Will warns cash-seekers looking to take a video of the wrongdoers.
“I had knives pulled on me three times,” Slapikas said, “and never spilled even a drop of blood.”
People can make as much as $90 in three minutes via this hack. doobzee.eth/TiktokOne tipster named Patrick Snell claims that snitches can mitigate risk by holding their phones in their hands in an “inconspicuous” manner — although he claims this doesn’t always work. No pain, no gain, we suppose.
Thankfully, there are plenty of ways to make dough on the side sans risking life and limb. One enterprising TikToker reportedly discovered an ingenious way to make $50,000 between now and Christmas — by simply reselling items on Shopify.
