This random act of kindness turned out to be an internet sensation.

Paula Accorsi Picard was at the Holyoke Mall in Massachusetts last Thursday with a friend when she spotted 23-year-old Alonzo Johnson approach an elderly man stopped at the top of an escalator.

The 83-year-old explained that he had once gotten stuck on an escalator and was scared.

The young man offered his arm, and the pair went down the escalator side by side, according to Picard’s Facebook post.

“So so sweet to witness,” she wrote. “Your family raised you right! Thank you!”

Johnson told Mass Live he didn’t know anyone was watching when he asked the elderly man if he could help him.

Picard’s touching post has garnered over 425,000 likes and 25,000 comments, so far.
