Two students in Florida were arrested for allegedly carjacking a teacher outside their elementary school, according to officials.
Police said the 13-year-old boys were charged Monday in connection with the Sept. 25 car theft at Biscayne Gardens Elementary School in Miami, news station WPLG reported. Neither student was identified because they are minors.
The first student reportedly held 59-year-old teacher Flora Martinez at gunpoint in the school parking lot and demanded her car keys.
While Martinez ran for help, the second teen jumped into the driver’s seat of her car, according to police.
The pair attempted to make a getaway in the vehicle, but crashed into a curb in the parking lot, authorities said.
Both teens ran from the scene and weren’t arrested until Martinez identified one of them in a police lineup, according to WPLG.
The students appeared Tuesday in bond court where the judge ordered they attend class under off-site supervised detention.
“You can’t go near the teacher and you can’t go on the school property,” the judge said, according to WPLG.
