Fashion Week began as a small industry gathering, in which buyers and editors checked out the latest designer collections — but somehow, over the years, crops of fame-hungry bloggers, “influencers” and downright randoms have managed to insert themselves at the biannual event and co-opt it as their own. And as more and more social media stars emerge from the woodwork, the pressure increases on them to out-peacock each other in an effort to get noticed by a growing fashion flock of adoring street style photographers.
