This rabbit’s feet brought anything but good luck.
A flaming rabbit sparked a wildfire in Canada when it hopped from the controlled blaze where it was apparently ignited into an adjoining field.
The fire department in the Beardy’s & Okemasis’ Cree Nation community in Saskatchewan had just wrapped up a controlled burn Monday afternoon when the adorable accelerant lit up a neighboring stretch of brush, said the group’s Emergency Management head.
“Unfortunately, after a controlled burn was conducted and thought-to-be extinguished, a rabbit-on-fire (yes, this is true) lit another adjacent section of bush and caught fire,” an incredulous Kevin Seesequasis wrote in a statement.
“The fire quickly grew in size and the Fire Department responded immediately and appropriately.”
Two nearby schools had to be evacuated while smoke-eaters quashed the hare-hastened flames, Seesequasis said.
No human injuries were reported, though the fate of the rabbit was unclear.
Fittingly, the blaze broke out on the first day of the community’s Emergency Preparedness Week, Seesequasis wrote.
“As with anything, experience has a funny way of being a really effective teacher,” he said.
